Amazon.com Product Description The British invasion not only brought long hair, Cuban heels and phony accents to our shores, it also brought the now classic cathode-biased 30 watt Class A guitar amp. At moderate volumes, these gifts from the Commonwealth produce a fantastic chime that will be your ticket to ride. Crank them into saturation, and you'll have a multi-dimensional roar that will cause any bohemian to rhapsodize on their articulation and sustain.
Our two-channel V33-212 combo produces 33 watts of all tube Class A tone through dual 12" speakers. Set one channel for crystal clear cleans, and the other for the warm overdrive distortion that can only come from four EL84 cathode biased output tubes, and you're ready to start your own tone revolution. The new V33's boost function lets your solos soar above the band with just one stomp on the footswitch (sold separately), while the three-band EQ, fluid channel switching and spring reverb give you ultimate sonic control in a loud, durable package. Thermion, dead man!
Tubes! Just the smell of those glass bottles blazing with fire gets amp aficionados to perk up and lose their cool. Giving our all for the evolution of all-tube tone, Crate's V-Series combos and stacks produce the sweet cleans and earthy distortion that can only come from tubes. Roadworthy construction, modern features and genuine value are causing legendary players and novices alike to develop a thermionic love-Jones for the Crate V-Series.

4 Stars for ValueNovember 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
They say you get what you pay for...well in this case, you get a lot for a low price.
This amp gets fairly loud. Loud enough to gig with at normal medium-club volume, though it is not a volume beast by any means.
The tone of the EL84's give it a nice clean to crunchy tone on the clean channel. The overdrive channel is a little muddy, so that is when you kick in the 900hz 10db boost (switch)and maybe switch to your bridge pickup for a more cutting tone. Probably the best way to play this amp is to crank up the clean channel to around 7-8 and use the volume control on the guitar. Back it off for clean, crank it up for a nice sounding overdrive that you just can't beat for the price. Most tube amps in this range would cost $550-$700.
Yes, it really doesn't hold up against a $700 Fender. It is a little noisy which most say you can clean up with a quality preamp and weaker reverb tube instead of the stock Sovtek tubes that come with it. It will also improve your tone and give you a choice if you want it to break up sooner or have more clean headroom. When the output tubes need replacing, you will need to get them in "quartets" (matched sets of four tubes). The preamp tubes can be replaced individually. It gets a little warm on top and the vents help expel the heat. Smooth knobs and wide tonal EQ are a plus.
It does not come with the optional footswitch for switching channels or turning on and off the boost function. It also does not come with a cover or wheels. It weighs around 50 pounds and is very large for a combo.
It is not fancy, but modestly nice looking.
Testimony: I bought one that was a scrath'n'dent, it must have fallen off the back of a truck, and the metal corner piece and handle took the brunt of the fall. This thing is built quite sturdy.
Speakers seem fine. 2x12" 50 watt 16-ohm. Plenty of sustain and responsive tube drive, nice harmonic feedback.
Buy it for a beginner tube amp that won't break the bank. Buy it for a second amp or home practice. Buy it for the EL84 tubes which are quite different from the Fender-type 6L6's in tone and feel. Buy it because it is a killer deal.
I bought it for my kid, and now I want to keep it! (I own many high-end Fender amps, too!)
Simply Awesome!October 15, 2008 I really love this amp! This is my first tube amp so I really can't compare it to the Marshall's etc. However, my friends seem to really like it as well. It is really easy to use. I gave it five stars because of the price you just cannot beat it. I do have a Line 6 150 digital amp and I really like it to, but the tones coming from this Crate is awesome! It is also very loud. Don't underestimate this great deal! I use a Hamer guitar and a Michael Kelly Vibe and both sound great.
