Great Little DriveJanuary 8, 2009 I bought this item after getting a Western Digital 500GB Passport drive. I very much prefer the Seagate drive. The case construction is very solid, the drive is smaller than the WD drive. In a very nice touch, the bottom surface of the drive is very subtly rubberized to keep it from sliding around on whatever surface you put it on.
The included USB cable is just the right length for my liking (about 18"), and thin (thus flexible).
I'm seeing read/write speeds of around 23MB/s with this drive.
Not impressed so farJanuary 8, 2009 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased thisSeagate ST905003FAA2E1-RK FreeAgent Go 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (Black) to use on my mac book pro and it does not seem to work. It appears that this is intended to work on Windows PC only but I can't find any information nor help from Seagate. I don't know if I will ever buy another Seagate product becuse their customer support seems to be non-existent. The product description should state Windows PC only if above is true.
Finally able to backup my computerJanuary 7, 2009 My computer was set for auto backup. Initially it failed, since the backup drive was 6 GB and I have at least that in photos. The alternative was inserting about 6 CDs each month--so problemmatic. I now leave the FreeAgent hooked up (purchased the dock too) and the computer backs itself up each month--all the photos, iTunes, programs, etc. I also use it to back up our laptop and old computer. It's lovely to look at, too, very sleek with a blue light dot pattern.
drive is fine.. customer service is horribleDecember 31, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I hope you never have a single issue with this drive as Seagate Customer Service is nonexistant. I can get no one to contact me. Their call centers always seem to be on holiday.. ugh.. good luck everyone
Better than expectedDecember 29, 2008 I expected that this disk would be great, but it has exceeded my expectations. Impressive small profile. Very fast transfer rate. The management software isn't completely useless(as many are). Half of a TB in my pocket!
