Good ValueAugust 7, 2007 I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of voices in this modestly priced keyboard. It's more than met my expectations, in terms of performance for making demo songs. There's no confusing this product with a performance level instrument, but then again, why would you expect that at such a low price?
Not as advertisedMay 29, 2007 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
My Yamaha portable keyboard only came with 60 keys, not 61. The worst part about it is the missing key is right in the middle of the keyboard, making it virtually useless. I have contacted the seller (ANTOnline), but since they cannot be reached by phone it has been through email. Their online customer service department emails me back within 2 business days, but they will not replace it with a 61-Key piano. Instead, they suggest that I send it to Yamaha. Sending it to Yamaha is going to cost me an additional $27 for shipping--and repair or replacement could take up to 6 weeks--so I am highly dissatisfied. Ordering products online should be as or more convenient than going to an actual store. This experience has proven to me that this is not the case.
good to start, but move away quicklyApril 27, 2007 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
For what it is, this keyboard is great. However, "what it is" allows it to have significant drawbacks: 1: the speakers are horrible. With external speakers or headphones, it sounds great (need an adapter, as the keyboard has a quarter-inch jack). If playing one key at a time, the speakers may be acceptable, but they are incapable of combining the sounds of several keys. 2: it is not touch-sensitive. This means that, no matter how hard or soft you press the keys, a sound of the same volume will be played. 3: It is set to LOUD by default. Every time I turned the keyboard on, I lowered the volume to one third. The keyboard uses button presses, rather than a dial, to control volume. This is simply annoying and should have been corrected. 4: It is not full-size. It has 61 keys; a piano has 88. This may or may not be a limitation, depending on your skill level and song preference. 5: Headphone jack is on the back of the keyboard. It should be on the front, which is more convenient and comfortable. 6: Flimsy bookstand. This is a problem with some better Yamaha models as well.
On the exceptionally good side: 1: the default piano sound, with good headphones (Sennheiser EH 350), is spectacular. 2: very light and easy to carry. It can also run on batteries, in case you want to take it camping or something. 3: Very cheap, which is handy if you plan to take it camping. It is also durable if you are careful with it.
On some occasions, I would prefer to use this keyboard rather than my new Yamaha DGX 505, simply because the notes sound so beautiful.
If your child wants to play the piano, either this or a YPT 300 is perfect. The Piano Handbook by Carl Humphries is a very helpful as well.

Although this keyboard is small, and pretty compact, it has a great price and is ideal for a person who loves uncomplicated music without a "million and one" sounds which up the price and don't add much to the enjoyment of the person playing.

Sony DAV-IS10 Home Theater System $439.99 - $799.99 from 11 stores. User rating:0.0 out of 5.
The 5.1 channel home-theater-in-a-box system features five tiny speakers - each about the size of a golf ball. The system, matched with a compact, single disc DVD/CD player/receiver, includes a unique subwoofer that helps the tiny speakers create sounds typically reserved for full size speakers.
While the system features small speakers, it packs all the power of conventional home theater-in-a-box systems with 450 watts of total system power (satellite speakers 50W x 5, plus 2-way subwoofer 100W x 2). The system is specially tuned to deliver a natural sound field that takes the focus off the subwoofer while supplementing mid range and lower frequencies.
