Editorial Review Classic and sturdy, this black, solid wood grand piano is an adorable accessory for your child's playroom or bedroom. Toddlers will love feigning Mozart alongside real pianists, or simply getting their fingers prepared for those afterschool lessons. That said, this piano is not a real piano; the keys are arranged like the real thing, but it doesn't use tunable strings. And while it gives the proper notes, the instrument sounds more like the toy that it is, rather than a tiny Steinway, as the elegant exterior implies.
The piano has only 15.5 inches of legroom underneath, and the matching bench is about 12 by 8.5 inches, so kids older than 4 or perhaps 5 years would hardly be able to play comfortably at it. To get your mini maestro started, a page of letter-coded sheet music featuring short familiar songs, such as "London Bridge" and "Jingle Bells," is included. A detachable sheet music stand rests conveniently on top of the piano. --Diane Beall
Poor build qualitySeptember 1, 2008 Bought a similar pink version of this grand piano for my daughter's 3rd birthday. The piano was defective right out of the box, 4 keys has no sound to it, some of the strikers are stuck in the "up" position.
The piano promptly went back to the store and we'll be shopping for another brand.
Mixed ReviewMay 29, 2007 Our son received this as a gift from his Grandma for his first birthday. She knew he would love it because he enjoys "playing" the real piano, at her house.
Well, he does love it. He love, love, loves it. No other thing we have ever purchased for him has captured his attention for such a long period of time. We've only had it for a couple of weeks, so he might get tired of it at some point. We'll see. But for now, it's his favorite thing. He loves to stand and bang on the keys, then pauses to look around to make sure everyone is listening to his performance. He'll even stop and clap for himself. He also sits on the bench and plays. The dimensions are great for either standing or sitting.
The version we have has a slightly different stool, with the legs angle out a bit, which makes it very very sturdy.
The piano itself is less sturdy and we only let him play with it when we're in the room because he has tried to climb on it and tip it over.
So it's a wonderful toy and I can see that this could be a great way to introduce your child to playing an instrument.
However, the sound. It's pretty tinny and chimey. It isn't unpleasant, even with all the banging. It just isn't super piano like. I tried to pick out country gardens and the notes are quite off key. I read in another person's review that they were able to tune it a bit, so we'll have to try that.
So as an actual instrument? I'd give this one star. As an entertaining musical toy, five stars. I'd give it an extra half star just for the photo ops you'll have, but half stars aren't possible. Sooo: overall, three stars.
Great Little Toy PianoFebruary 22, 2007 I recently bought one of these for our 18-month-old son. The piano arrived in fine shape. The piano and bench are sturdy and well made when you put them together properly. The sound is just like I remember a toy piano should sound. Notes are not perfectly in tune like a fine instrument, but tuned within reason to the notes of the scale, including sharps and flats. Most importantly, our little boy just loves playing this piano. Hopefully it will inspire him to continue and so it is as great an introdroduction to music as any other toy, including the electronic toys, we have purchased for him. I also liked that he wasn't able to pull off the keys try as he may. They just kind of become locked when he trys to do that and can be put back in place by minor adjstment.
A $10 toy piano has better sound than thisJanuary 23, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For the price ($80) I expected much better sound. Should spend a little more and get a Shoenhut or for $10 you could get a toy piano that sounds better than this one. Very tinny sound, completely out of tune (why do they bother even assigning a note to the keys?), and lid is attached with screws AND glue so the only way to get to the metal rods to attempt to tune it, even after the screws are removed, will be to crack the wood casing getting past the glue.
My Grandson LOVES this piano!January 16, 2006 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
My grandson is 26 months old and is already singing and loves to listen to music. I bought him this to play with in hopes he will play for real later on. It is a lovely little piano and you will not be disappointed!

The 5.1 channel home-theater-in-a-box system features five tiny speakers - each about the size of a golf ball. The system, matched with a compact, single disc DVD/CD player/receiver, includes a unique subwoofer that helps the tiny speakers create sounds typically reserved for full size speakers.
While the system features small speakers, it packs all the power of conventional home theater-in-a-box systems with 450 watts of total system power (satellite speakers 50W x 5, plus 2-way subwoofer 100W x 2). The system is specially tuned to deliver a natural sound field that takes the focus off the subwoofer while supplementing mid range and lower frequencies.
