M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered SpeakersNovember 4, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased a pair of M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Powered Speakers last week and I am not overly impressed. The sound is ok but you cannot use a lot of bass without getting an annoying hum. They are not as good as my Bose PC speakers, that's for sure.
Pops and snapsOctober 28, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm using these with a Macbook and get a variety of pops and snaps through the speakers from such things as switching on or off a small incandescent light on my table or the washing machine starting or stopping downstairs. I have it plugged into an APC filter/BBU so I would not expect any interference through the AC line. These replaced an old speaker set with subwoofer that came from Dell years ago - they did not have this problem.
Great Speakers for the price!October 28, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Great for apt. livingOctober 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not an audiophile but for a chick who lives in an NYC apt they're perfect. My walls are thin, my floorboards too and my neighbors used to hate the heavy bass they felt from my old sub woofer. These speakers don't have a sub woofer and I don't mind a lot at all. Sure sometimes some techno sounds a bit flat but everything else is great. I don't know how other speakers in this price range would compare with techno anyways (i haven't done a cross comparison) and to be frank, I can't really blast it up like I would want because I live in an apt. building. I like techno and that used to drive the woman downstairs crazy. Now w/o this subwoofer I can blast my music way more than before. They are a bit bigger than the tiny speakers from other companies BUT you don't have that huge subwoofer so I think it evens out in the end. They're smaller than a small woman's shoebox. I minded the size at first but I've gotten used to them. All in all I'm very happy.
Strong performanceOctober 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Use these speakers as they are intended to be used - as desktop speakers for your computer, or for a small home studio at your mixing board, etc. - and they perform very, very well.
As others have said, if you need lots of huge, shake-your-lungs bass, etc. - get a subwoofer system. But if you need a pair of small, solid, clear, "musical" speakers to enjoy music, multimedia, etc. with good range (even in the bottom end) - these are great.
