I bought this to keep in my car so I wouldn't have to try and write everytime I need to remember something while I'm driving. Unfortunately it's cumbersome and not easy to use if you're driving. It's OK but I wouldn't buy it unless you're looking for something inexpensive and not to be used in the car. It's probably fine for classroom use but for driving you would need something different.
Good for voice note, not that good for music practiceFebruary 17, 2007 21 out of 23 found this review helpful
So-so for me.
I would have given it 5 stars if I use it only for voice note. It does what it is supposed to, and it does it well.
However, it didn't work well for my daughter's violin lesson. The idea was she records herself and/or her teacher, and later she plays along with the recorded thing for practice.
The problem is, the recorded notes sound always a bit higher than originally played on the instrument. I guess the tape speed is faster when playing back than when recording, for some reason. Maybe you wouldn't notice at first, but as soon as you try to play along with the tape it becomes apparent.
Probably I was hoping too much for an inexpensive microcasette recorder, though. I wouldn't blame the manufacturer.
Good performance for bargain priceJanuary 25, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Great deal -- recorder has 2 speeds, is easy to use, compact, and records/plays back well.
Olympus has NO quality control!!!!June 19, 2006 41 out of 42 found this review helpful
I bought this Olympus recorder at a local electronics store (circuit city) and had to return the first one, since the record/playback head had a problem staying in physical contact with the tape. The playback volume would drop down in volume since the head was not snug against the tape during playback conditions.
The second one worked okay for about six months, then guess what happened? You've got it - the same tape contact problem that occurred with the first sample occurred with the second. This time the problem was even worse - the recorder failed to record adequately, so that nothing but noise was on the tape. I see that both items were made in China - where quality control is much poorer than either Japan or Korea, at least that's my personal experience.
While it worked, it was just "okay", nothing to brag about.
Does what I want it to! That's all that matters!May 16, 2006 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
I am a musician, and I own an eight track digital recorder for completed musical ideas, but sometimes i wake up at night with a vocal or lyrical idea that i just don't want to forget. I can keep this handy little recorder by my bed, that way i won't forget my great ideas. This product does what i want it to do, it helps me get my ideas out so that I don't forget them the next day. I heard that the idea for the opening riff for "Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones was recorded as Keith Richards awoke with an idea in his head. It has been said that all that could be heard on the rest of the tape is Keith snoring! lol!! this may not be that very recorder, but it'll do fine by me.
