4 out of 5 stars Features I was looking for   January 6, 2008
I just got this out of the box within the past two hours, and so far I am very happy with it. I had received a HoMedics SS-7000 Sound Spa Sound Machine Clock Radio with iPod Docking Station for Christmas, but I returned it because the display was so bright! I couldn't sleep, even with the "dim" setting. Also, the remote on that product didn't work with my 3rd generation iPod. After many days of hunting, I found this product at OfficeMax (and lucked out: it rung up as $30) and noticed it had the two features I was looking for in a iPod alarm clock: plays and charges 3rd generation iPods and the display dims (to nothing). A surprise plus: the remote controls the 3g.

One weird thing I did notice: Don't touch the screen! I got weird black marks all over it. Luckily, they disappeared after waiting 15 minutes or so. Also, a little disappointed that you can't dictate whether you want to wake up to iPod or buzzer.

As far as other reviews: yeah, the volume doesn't go very low, even when you reduce the iPod volume, but I don't think I'll be using the sleep function all that much. Don't know much about the other problems--hope it doesn't start to die in 90 days like that one reviewer!

3 out of 5 stars Black insert for iPod Nano 4g does not fit   January 4, 2008
My plastic insert for the iPod Nano 4g fits on the base but not with the Nano 4g. Someone miscalculated the measurements although I do have the Red Nano...maybe that's the difference. Next, there's a small dent in the right speaker. I'll keep it anyway so I can bring it with me when I travel.

4 out of 5 stars iH26b   December 22, 2007

Just purchased this unit because I found a good deal at a local retailer (less than here - sorry Amazon). However, since I checked the reviews here first before purchasing I thought I should contribute. Before acquiring this unit, I purchased it's big brother, the iH8BR, which I am very happy with, both in sound and price. Because of this I already had a good vibe for the manufacturer and product. When looking for a portable speaker system for my iPod I definitely looked at the SDI products as an option. Their units have a nice solid, heavy feel to them, and provide good sound (rich, bassy quality). The same holds true for the iH26. It was simple to set up and use, and i like that it has doks for multiple iPods and a line-in for other devices. I found this unit to have almost similar sound quality to it's big brother, iH8B, if not the sound volume. I'm not quite sure what was meant by some of the other reviews that mentioned that it "was not low enough", as this unit can be adjusted to be barely heard (maybe not "loud" enough?). It did break up/distort slightly at higher volumes, but that depended on what was playing, in that it does not handle the treble well at higher volumes. Overall the sound quality was as good or better as compared to some of the other portable speaker systems (JBL, iSound, etc) in this price rage (under $50, if you can find it a that price).
I only have three gripes that are more cosmetic/functional. First, it's weight, somewhere around 3-4 pounds sans iPod. While the unit is indeed portable and folds flat, it is kind of thick(about 2") and heavy as compared to other units (maybe that accounts for the good sound). As a frequent traveler I will definitely adding to my load carrying this thing around (hopefully it will be worth it). Second, the case that came with the unit is only slightly adequate to house the unit and peripherals, and should have more padding along the edges, especially where the LCD panel rests. Also, it is too small to store the AC adapter in, unless you squeeze it in and deal with a bulging case that barely closes. SDI should have either made the case to accommodate the adapter, or provided a real travel AC adapter, perhaps one where the prongs fold. My last gripe, again purely cosmetic, is that the unit has a high glossy finish, so fingerprints galore.

So overall I am please with my purchase, and if you can find it for $50 or less I would recommend it (local stores, etc). Any higher that $50 and you will probably be disappointed with the unit.

Pros
-Good Sound quality (on par with iH8B), although not as loud
-good solid, heavy feel
-easy to setup and use
-portable, folds flat

Cons
-Some sound distortion at higher volumes, especially with sources with high treble
-somewhat heavy for being a "portable Travel" device (3-4 lbs)
-Carry case is too small and not padded enough. limited space for AC adapter.
-high glossy finish - lots of fingerprints

2 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.   December 3, 2007
This little gem started to fall apart on me almost exactly as the factory warranty expired. I purchased it thinking I would get a nice little docking station for my bedside table, and save money compared to buying the full-sized model (iHome IH8BR Clock Radio for iPod). My mistake. This unit often causes my iPod to freeze up, one of the speakers has stopped working, and I never know if the alarm will actually play from my iPod or just beep. I have never traveled with it, but I can't imagine it would stand up to much handling. If you're looking for a quality dock for your iPod, keep looking for one that's actually worth its price tag.

This transaction was flawless...the little iHome works perfectly. Waking up to my choice of music is so much more pleasant than the music my old radio offered. On Amazon, I easily found what I was looking for - at a great price...quick shipment...what more could you ask for?
