Amazing Kindle!December 2, 2008 The Kindle is everything advertised! I LOVE it. The variable type sizes are wonderful for older folks (like me). Just turn it off and it comes on right to the spot you stopped reading! You can access books and download them instantly. We live in a rural area so I was concerned about the downloading... but no problem at all. The only thing I had to get used to was how to hold it so no buttons were hit by mistake. This is definitely the new world of reading. The fact that you can download books to multiple Kindles on your account is great. My husband and I read a lot of the same type of books so I have also purchased a Kindle for him.
Christmas is ComingDecember 2, 2008 I am excited about the Kindle I purchased, however it is a Christmas present for my wife so it will not even been out of the box until the 25th! I would like to add how easy it was to purchase on the website. I hope my wife will like it, if not I guess it will be mine. Woo Hoo.
A Gift that IS a GiftDecember 2, 2008 I bought this as a gift for my wife - she is a voracious reader. Not only is it very convenient, but now I don't have to take the papers out. I also like the convenience of the wireless downloads. She now subscribes to papers outside our area and we receive a much broader range of opinions and ideas. The only thing that is missed is the Sunday funnies. However, this is a small price to pay for such an expanded range of information. This is the wave of the future. As the price comes down I will probably give this as a gift to other family members.
FANKindleTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!December 2, 2008 I heard about Kindle when it first came out but never really gave it much thought. Then recently I saw someone on the train with this 'white digital device,' and me being the gadget junkie that I am, of course I had to look over her shoulder and check it out. Imagine my delight when I discovered it's a digital reader!! I love reading just as much as I love gadgets! The rest is history ;~) I ADORE my Kindle! It's absolutely fantastic! The ease of use, clear easy to read screen, and instant access to THOUSANDS of books, magazines and newspapers make this device the 'gotta get it' gift for anyone who enjoys reading.
It fits very comfortably in your hand, just like a real book. It took NO getting used to, I loved it right out the box. And for me it seemed so meant to be, the same day I saw it on the train, I went home and researched it, turns out, it was the LAST day for the 'Oprah' discount! It was like a match made in heaven!!
The only complaint I have is the 'next page' bar being on both sides of the unit. When handling the Kindle the next page bar is constantly pressed no matter how carefully you hold the unit. Personally, the 'next page' bar could have been limited to one side in my opinion.
Other than that, it's AWESOME!!!

Terrible design; almost anywhere you touch the device the page turns. A backlight would be very helpful. Hopefully the next generation will improve. I need to find out about the return policy.
