Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The DVD-2910 is endowed with technology to unleash the full impact of DVD-Video picture quality. The DVD-2910 also uses two 12-bit, 216-MHz video D/A converters to faithfully preserve the delicate low-level signals often lost during D/A conversion. With these advanced video image technologies, the DVD-2910 will reproduce with the highest resolution, DVD images on Progressive-compliant monitors and projectors. For sound, it is high quality audio D/A conversion and Digital Bass Management that will bring out the best of not only Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio discs, but your entire CD collection as well.

Nice multiformat player, few quirks.November 27, 2005 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a really nice multi-format player. The most impressive part of this unit is its DVD-video performance. It upsamples DVD's to 720p, which makes for great viewing on a suitable high def monitor (as a point of reference, i own a pioneer pdp-4350). An HDMI interface is available.
For music, the unit's internal upsampling D/A converter is effective. You also have the ability to send out the digital signal for outboard processing; I tried this using a musical fidelity x-dac v3, and there was no discernible difference in quality. CDs, SACDs and DVD-As all sound great on this machine, so don't believe anyone that suggests this $700 unit can't match higher priced, dedicated CD-only or multi-format units. Audio-snobbery is out of control, so don't let it get to you. This unit easily performs to the level of a higher priced Classe or Rega or meridian unit. If you don't believe me, do a properly controlled test where the listener is blinded to the source.
The unit has extensive audio and video menus, so I would suggest going through those once you plug it in. At the least, you'll have to turn on the HDMI output through this setup menu. Finally, the build quality of this unit is very satisfactory. I recommend the silver finish.
Couple of quirks: I've noticed that for dual discs, it often does not recognize the CD side. For example, John Mayer's "Heavier Things" dual disc works on the DVD-A side, but the CD side is not recognized. Otherwise, I've had no problem with single format CD, DVD-A or SACD discs.
Also, the remote is kinda clunky and uninspiring. I'd suggest using an effective universal remote, if only for aesthetics.

The 5.1 channel home-theater-in-a-box system features five tiny speakers - each about the size of a golf ball. The system, matched with a compact, single disc DVD/CD player/receiver, includes a unique subwoofer that helps the tiny speakers create sounds typically reserved for full size speakers.
While the system features small speakers, it packs all the power of conventional home theater-in-a-box systems with 450 watts of total system power (satellite speakers 50W x 5, plus 2-way subwoofer 100W x 2).
