acoustic research wireless headphonesDecember 1, 2008 Recieved headphones 3 day after I ordered them. Work great for watching tv and listening to the stereo. Very good range. Can walk around the house with them and signal is good.
Very poorNovember 15, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was never able to get enough volume from this unit (AR AW722/AW772) for easy listening. To make it work the volume on the TV was set so high that I no longer needed the headset. Product is being returned.
A second unit I bought for my son-in-law worked for about 10 months and then quit completely. Replaced by Best Buy with a Sony headset.
My original purchase of an AR, AW771, was bought several years ago from Best Buy. It works fine. I am told by AR that this unit was replaced by the AW722/AW772. Obviously not a good replacement. Perhaps the only thing improved was their profit margin.
Charging cradle has serious issues. AVOID.October 10, 2008 I'm not a neophyte when it comes to electronics, and I can certainly read an instruction manual. So, you can trust me when I tell you that the "induction" charging cradle has serious issues. Issues, such as BREAKING and refusing to charge the batteries.
Induction is a method of charging batteries that doesn't require any form of "metal to metal" connection, or plug. So, when you place the headset into its cradle, a magnetic field is generated that is supposed to be turned back into electricity within the headset and thus CHARGE the batteries (without any need of connecting wires). This really is a great form of charging, with only one small problem; It seems to BREAK the charging mechanism in the headphones. My guess is that it's caused by the HEAT generated by the induction, or probably just poor manufacturing. Yes, I said "heat". Induction creates a lot of "heat", and while I wouldn't say the cradle gets seriously "hot", I wouldn't place it on top of anything heat sensitive.
I didn't even have these headphones ONE WEEK before the induction charging was BROKEN and the headset refused to charge. Yes, I read the manual regarding proper charging of the batteries (and the NiMH memory effect). The simple fact is, this headset is POORLY made and breaks VERY easily.
Of course, you could always charge the batteries with an external charger, but that sort of defeats the purpose of the recharging cradle. You'll also find youself having to pop the battery door on the headphones open all the time.
I would advise anyone who wants HASSLE FREE wireless headphones, to stay far away from these. Maybe you'll get lucky and not have an induction charger failure, but then, why take a chance? Spend a few more dollars and get something that doesn't break as quickly! If you're going to buy a set of headphones in this price range, I have found the RCA WHP141 to be a good buy. Just make sure you read the reviews for the RCA headphones first to learn about the best ways to avoid the "hiss" associated with them.

Very Good ProductJuly 16, 2008 I purchased these phones after reading all the other reviews for this item. I must agree with those who found the earphones a good product. I experienced no problems as described ib the 'negative' reviews. I do not know why anyone would pass up this wonderful product!!
