I love this little stereoNovember 12, 2008 I had already purchased a different model (looks exactly the same but it's silver instead of black and costs a little more, but other than that I can't tell the difference) and when I moved to a bigger place, I decided I needed to get another one for a different floor of the house, so I came straight to this one!
Pros:
- It is simply gorgeous! I even had a friend who came over comment on how pretty this stereo is.
- It sounds great! The same friend commented on how good the sound was, and so did other people who came over.
- It has a pretty nice remote.
- It doesn't take up a lot of room.
- It plays MP3 CD's.
- It's pretty sturdy. While this one hasn't fallen or bumped into anything, the other one I bought was on the floor within minutes of arriving. It didn't have a scratch and the fall didn't affect the way it operates at all!
- It plays loud enough and with a clear sound.
- The sound is very clear even when the volume is very low.
Cons:
- If you lose the remote, you are screwed. Lots of the commands are only available when using the remote.
- The remote is very easily lost, it's tiny and very thin. Make sure it has a spot and that you leave it at that spot whenever it's not in use.
- It doesn't have a USB port for plugging your MP3 player into it.
- If you remove the speakers, the center part doesn't have a very good balance and tends to tip, which can make it fall like my other one did when I put it on the kitchen counter to set it up.
All things considered, I love this little stereo and will probably be purchasing another one soon so I can leave it in the guest room. :)
Enjoy!
Sub-par for the priceSeptember 30, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was very disappointed with this item for the amount that I paid for it. The sound quality was very good, but there were other flaws with the unit that caused my dissatisfaction. The AM radio reception is TERRIBLE, and that was my primary reason for buying the unit. Also, the power of the speakers is far too great for use in an office setting. I had this unit in my office on the lowest volume, and it was still far too loud. I unhooked one speaker, and my office mates were still bothered. This system may do well for a different setting, but it is certainly not of any use for listening to the radio in a quiet setting.
Poor quality, waste of money.September 28, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have used this product for only a few months and it has already stopped working normally. The motor doesn't have enough power to pull/down the door for add/remove CD's from it.
Was cool looking when it was working, over time it will just be a paper weight.
Also the sound was very low quality and the remote is difficult to use (yes that's true!).
A large majority of Philips/Magnavox products are crappy quality and poor warranty support. Stay away!
It's OKAugust 28, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
It's OK. Somehow, it's bigger and heavier than I expected. It only plays CDs that are in pristine condition. If they are tired or scratched even a tiny bit...they won't play. It's not really loud and it's not very clear when you turn up the volume so it is not good for heavy music. [i.e. Korn fans should pass on this one, for instance.] However...if you're looking to listen to your Aerosmith CDs while doing the dishes, then it's fine for you. :)
Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System (Black)August 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The radio is good unfortunately sometimes you hear a lot of static. The antennas were placed properly and all. I am not sure why this occurs. With that exception, the product is okay.
