Amazon.com Product Description Watch up to 80 hours of pre-recorded TV shows, movies, or home videos or listen to up to 300 hours of music with the RCA Lyra X3000 digital media player. Equipped with a 20 GB hard drive, the player offers ample storage space for all your favorite entertainment, including room for up to 10,000 photos in lieu of the aforementioned audio/video files. In addition, users have no shortage of formats from which to choose, with support for MP3, WMA, WMA-DRM, WAV, Audible, and Janus audio formats; MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, and WMV-9 video formats; and JPEG, Bitmap, TIF, GIF, and PNG photo formats. Best of all for many media enthusiasts, the Lyra X3000 also acts as a video recorder, with the ability to record in MPEG-4 format from a variety of sources, including DVD players, TVs, set-top boxes, camcorders, or VCRs.
Like a pocket digital video recorder (DVR), the Lyra X3000 can record on a timer. Merely set the time and date of the program you want to capture and the device will turn itself on and record while you're absent. _Plus, you don't need to turn on the targeted video source before you leave, as the IR Blaster (which comes with the docking station) handles the task when it's time to record. One of the handiest features, however, is the bundled DivX Create software, which lets you compress your downloaded and recorded video files or improve their compatibility with just the click of your mouse.
Other details include a crisp 3.6-inch, full-color TFT display; the ability to record audio direct from a source--such as a CD player, MP3 player, or radio--in MP3 format; a composite video output for viewing high-resolution (480p) content on a TV or monitor; and a built-in speaker or listening without headphones. The Lyra X3000, which comes with a rechargeable battery that lasts for roughly 3.58 hours while watching video or 7.5 hours when listening to music, measures 5 by 3.1 by 0.8 inches (W x H x D) and carries a 90-day warranty on labor and a one-year warranty on parts.
What's in the Box Lyra X3000 digital media recorder, AC power supply, software CD, earbuds, protective cover, line-out cable, line-in cable, mini-USB cable, car adapter, docking station, remote control, battery pack, IR blaster, USB adapter, user's manual.

An amazing gizmoOctober 12, 2008 This is a geek's delight. It's easy to use, though the touchwheel is a bit sensitive. That's about it. It's got a clear screen, an excellent picture, and even the little speaker is quite good. It's idiot proof and easy to use. After just a couple of days, it's a lifesaver for hospital waiting rooms, long trips, etc., etc. It's worth every penny.

I love this little unit! You can hook it up to a tv, vcr, dvd,etc and record video directly to the 20 gigabyte internal hard drive. There is also a spot for a SD card for extra storage. After your shows are recorded, you simply hook it up to a pc and use Windows Explorer to download the video. You can also use the device as an extra 20 gig hard drive. It will sync with Windows media player if you prefer to go that route. It has a beautiful lcd screen and of course you can watch videos or play mp3s on the device itself. Unlike some competitors the volume is adequate for listening in a car. Recording is a one button affair, or you can also set it up to automatically record those late night movies. All in all, a good product!

I have an earlier model of this and I sincerely hope that it has been greatly improved upon since that one was made.
I took it to work and was shocked that the battery was low after 3 hours. So much for using it on a long flight.
The headphone jack loosened and ultimately caused the unit to take up residence in a drawer.
It was a great device for the few hours that it ran per charge, but I expect longer battery life from something like this.
