But of course the most important features of the DE-1793 are its detection capabilities. The DE-1793 gives you 360-degree protection from a full range of detection signals, including X, K, Ka, and safety band radar, as well as laser and VG-2 detector detection. In addition, the DE-1793 is specially equipped to detect the rapid bursts of POP mode radar, which last less that 1/15 of a second and are undetectable by non-POP-equipped detectors.
Lightweight, compact, and sleek-looking, the DE-1793 can fit right by your windshield, giving you easy visual access to the digital text display. But for your added convenience, the DE-1793 also comes with a Real Voice Alert that can be turned off to avoid disturbing your sleeping passengers. And to limit false alerts, the DE-1793 gives you a choice of three different detection modes, letting you avoid the annoyance of repeated automatic door opener and burglar alarm warnings when you're driving in the city, but letting you know if signal strength becomes strong.

This radar detector is huge. It is very loud too. It has good range on radar detection. However, it doesn't matter what radar detector you have, if a cop points a laser at you are toast, because it is a laser, not radar, meaning that it will only detect the laser when it is being pointed directly at you. I bought this detector for my gadget lovin' fiancee. I have a whistler that is a couple years old that works just fine. It has saved me from a few tickets. I would probably buy my old one, over this one any day. Also, the packaging it came in, had been opened before and taped back shut. So, I am thinking someone thought the same thing and returned it!

This radar is fine for a $99 price. My only complaint is that it does go off alot becuase of other peoples radar, more so than I had expected. Its probably already saved me a couple tickets though so its paid for itself. Like I said, for $99 its a good deal....
Update, 1/13/08...Ihave used this radar detector quite a bit now...seems to work well..goes off well in advance of a cops radar...of course the laser works to but its too late once you get hit with that...it does go off if someone else has radar detector.cant remember if y last one did this often or not...like I originally said, for $99 it is a solid performer..
