Customer Reviews:
Sure it has issues but 5 discs loaded in slim case is great!April 14, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this model when it first came out because I was forever getting up and putting in a different DVD if we decided we didn't want to watch what was in there any longer. There is no other juke box type DVD player out there that is this slim (for those of you that have multiple components in an entertainment furniture ensemble) and this easy to use. There is only 1 downside that I have experienced on a repeated basis using this machine: you cannot choose a disc by number to play, you have to page thru the discs (called disc skip) to get from 1 to 5 and that takes a few seconds for each disc to skip. Those of us with extreme wish fulfillment issues will be on edge while this occurs. I've compensated by loading the discs in order that I hopefully will want to watch them in.
I bought a second backup model for when my first died and its been 3 years of constant use before I just took out the newer version and hooked it up because the old one had done its job and wanted to be recycled.
I plan on buying another back up 5 disc for when this one goes - in about 5 years. By that time, I will be watching DVDs when everyone else will be watching holograms but I still have 45 LPs that I play on an actual turntable so that should tell you how much I hate changing platforms.
Oh, yeah, there is 1 other intermittent problem with the unit. It does sometimes 'stick' when opening and closing the tray. Push, pull, unplug, pry open, etc. and the thing will get its act together, working well for another few months before it gets on its high horse and does it again.
The player reminds me of my old car which had some idiosyncrasies but its the fact you can put the first 5 Star Wars movies in and not get out of your seat for about 8 hours. Now that's worth the price!
Slow to recognizeMarch 19, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After owning and using a Yamaha 5 disc CD player for years, I decided to get this unit to replace a broken DVD player.
The picture quality is great as is the audio quality. My only real complaint is how long the unit takes to recognize what type of disc it just loaded. It can range anywhere from a few seconds to a full minute. And there does not appear to be any rhyme or reason to the delay. The delay varies on the same disc.
It's a waste of money!!!January 22, 2008 0 out of 7 found this review helpful
Just 3 days after having this unit, it just froze up. It won't play anything. The carousel won't open. Only the Dimmer button on the remote will function. This is my first and definitely my LAST YAMAHA product that I will buy.
Divx suggestionJanuary 14, 2008 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Just a quick tip for those playing a dvd or cd using divx converter: if you press fast forward or reverse normally, nothing happens and a null sign pops up on the TV. However, if you press and hold the ff or reverse button for a few seconds, it works as it should. Not sure if this is an issue (error?) with Yamaha or Divx, but I thought this suggestion might save someone some aggravation.
