Great unit, minor reservationsDecember 5, 2008 Have had this unit for about 6 weeks, and have used it locally and on a plane trip. Size and weight are great, screen quality clear, remarkable start-up and shut-down speed (much faster than a newer Dell desktop with 4 megs of RAM, Intel Core Duo and Vista). Bought an LG external DVD drive which works well with it, no set-up problems. Minor issues: as others have said, the key size is good for a unit of this size, but location of the right hand shift key is a problem, which I resolved by reassigning keys. Now no problem, but ASUS should fix this in next version. Also have had a few instances of XP freezing on shutdown, had to remove battery to shut down. Overall, highly recommended, great value.
A Little MonsterDecember 4, 2008 YES it's incredible! It works!!! This little guy is fast and portable! Before buying i've made an enormous research and, now that i have it in hands, i definitly made the right choice. I'm a student, so it works very well when i have to take to so many different places. The battery, OHH MY!! You will get tired of it...it never ends. The keyboard, you will have to get used to (i'm writing on him right now) but is like a butter. The screen is very bright and nice, the size it's perfect. It have no cd-drive, but you can mount a virtual one, and watch some movies in ISO, the INTERVIDEO that comes with it works perfect. It's on my lap right now, and it's not getting warm, i can't even feel it. Before i forget, this guy is solid...it's so well made, you will definitly notice the solid structure. So, on resume...it worth much more then cost...go for it!!!!

My 10-year old couldn't live with its shortcomingsDecember 2, 2008 We bought an Asus EeePC 1000H for our 10-year old daughter. My wife and I both love it for its portability and function (e.g., the battery life is superb and XP Pinball is great on it). However, my daughter couldn't live with a couple of its shortcoming. Most importantly, a lot of the web pages she frequents (e.g., Webkinz) do not fit completely on the screen in its native 1024 x 600 resolution. While there is a dedicated button for switching screen resolution, my daughter did not like either the scaling changes or image degradation that the various choices entailed. Almost as importantly, its trackpad is too sensitive, while the buttons are too stiff. I was shocked when my daughter told me that she'd rather have a larger computer. So she's inheriting my 14" widescreen HP dv1000 and I'm getting a 16" widescreen HP HDX16t. But I think she has her eye on the new Dell Inspiron Mini 12 and its 1280 x 800 screen.

I added to 2G memory module as an upgrade. the keyboard is a smaller than standard but my big fingers still fit. wifiN connects easily to various networks. I use its bluetooth for an external mouse (so I only use the keyboards finger controls for quick work). The built in camera is perfect for Skype type conversations. I recommend the product. NOTE:the hardrive comes with 2 partitions. At startup I thought the HD size was 1/2 the speced 160G, then found the other 80G in d:.
