Slippery and difficult to insert and remove ipodAugust 18, 2008 I purchased this because of the unique built-in stand which unfolds from the back of the case and went off on a trip with it. The fold-out stand helps it stand up on your airline tray table, and is useful whether you are reading an e-book or viewing a video, since it may be used verticlly or horizontally (respectively). The problem is that the plastic is so slippery the ipod starts to slide off the tray with any tilting of the plane and so I had to keep my hands loosely around the case. This could probably be solved by adding 2 little plastic or rubber "feet" to the part of the stand contacting the tray, but I had not thought to bring such things on the plane.
In addition, one needs a small coin or screwdriver to open the case and then (at least in my case) fiddle with it until it pops open, all the while hoping the ipod will not squirt out. The amount of time this takes is highly variable. If I want to be able to quickly take my ipod Touch in and out of its case for plugging into an external charging and speaker stand, I keep it in my Speck Armorskin case.
Quality ProblemApril 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Nice product easy to put on and get off as long as you have a dime handy for the open slot.
My biggest issue is a hairline crack to the left of the start button and the little button in the top left (what is that for anyway?). I returned the fist one only to see the same problem on the only one they hd left in the store. I went to another store (not best buy) where they had 5 others with the problem.
I did fined the non slip version without the problem and am giving it a try.....
I bought it for the kick stand, but...March 20, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this case because I thought the kickstand was a good idea. Trouble is, other factors were so negative that I had to return the case.
1) The case is NOT easy to remove once you get it on. If you want to use it in most speaker systems, you have to remove the case. Be careful, or you'll break the case trying to get it off.
2) I found the button cover for the on-off switch pushed slightly on the switch, causing it to spontaneously turn off or on.
3) The thickness of the case make it a little more difficult to type letters that are near the edge of the screen like Q and P. This is true of all thick cases, however.
4) Pocket dust collects under the case
I'm going back to my leather flip case, also made by DLO, which I like better, even though it's bulkier.
Very good case, but not perfect for everyone. Best for movie watchers.February 14, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
If you need a nice polycarbonate case for your iPod, this is one. If you need a kickstand for your iPod, this has one. If you want something that shows off the iPod's natural looks, this does that.
If you're a brute who doesn't read instructions, don't get this: You'll break it.
If you think this will protect your iPod from being dropped, don't get this: You'll break it.
If you think this is meant to be anything but a case to protect your iPod Touch while it's in your pocket, don't get this: You'll break it.
This is a nice case, but it's not meant to take abuse or stand against the hordes of Sparta. It's a plastic case that snugly fits your iPod Touch, and requires a vinyl film (included) or Invisible Shield or Best Skins Ever to protect the screen. It's not going to keep your iPod Touch from getting dinged up if you just toss it in your backpack or purse. It's not going to completely defend your iPod Touch if you throw your keys and change into the same pocket. It's just another layer of protection to keep your iPod Touch in good shape IF YOU TAKE CARE OF IT.
The kickstand is what sold me on this case over others. I can't say I love the clear look (I much prefer the leather look of various Griffin models) but I cannot deny that the innovative kickstand design is VERY handy. No, you can't have headphones on when you have the kickstand out and the iPod standing vertically-- But that's due to weird design on Apple's part (why is the headphone jack on the bottom?) and not the makers of this case. HOWEVER, when you NEED this kickstand, i.e., when watching videos, you'll note that the iPod is designed to be horizontal, thus the headphone jack is on the right side and well clear.
The kickstand requires a knowledge of how to close it, otherwise you'll break it. Once you know what you're doing, it feels pretty sturdy.
You can dock your iPod in this case, as long as you have a decent sized dock. I just used the next size up, and it's no problem. Your mileage may vary.
The button-covers do make the buttons less sensitive. This can either be a blessing or an annoyance. It's handy when the iPod's in your pocket, as it's not constantly waking up and going back to sleep... However, it's annoying when you're navigating and you're used to being able to zip through things. Every once in a while, with this case, you may have to press the sleep/wake/home button TWICE to get it to register.
All in all, I like this case. I don't love it. For me to love it, it would have to have the following changes:
* Leather over the polycarbonate, for a better look and feel (see Elan Form). * Slightly more space around the screen, so you're not hitting the bezel when scrolling. * If not a leather covering, then a matte option. It's too shiny otherwise!
Get this if you need a stand to go with your iPod Touch. This is great for frequent movie watchers or YouTube junkies. Not so good for people who prefer the vertical iPod stance to the horizontal one.
AwfulDecember 20, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This case is awful. The plastic clips that hold the two halves together do not have sufficient tension; the case comes apart at the slightest bump. I'm not talking about protection from dropping it; if you shift your iPod in your hand, for example, the case will come apart.
The case also does not have sufficient space at the bottom to connect a set of headphones other than the standard iPod ones -- I have a set of Shure e2c's that won't fully connect because there is insufficient clearance to accomodate the plastic around the headphone connector itself -- plugging in headphones also results in the case popping open.
Wish I had kept the packaging -- if I did I would return it.
