Product Description The DB4 has become our most popular model because it is simply the best Mid Range HDTV antenna on the market. With an approximate 13.7 dB gain, it is one of the strongest multi-directional antennas available and performs consistently across the entire UHF spectrum. It even works well in areas where HD transmitters are in multiple directions. The bow tie design of the DB4 uses triangular elements instead of rods to greatly increase the bandwidth allowing it to cover the entire UHF band. Additionally, the mesh reflector of the bowtie is more efficient than a rod reflector, is lower in weight, and provides less wind resistance for greater performance and durability. If you are looking for an antenna that is practically guaranteed to perform, the DB4 is one of your safest choices. It will pull in all UHF frequencies and most higher level VHF frequencies with a range of about 55 miles.
better than rabbit ears...December 1, 2008 received antenna with some elses paperwork including stating being returned due to ordering the wrong model. That freaked me out a little, but antenna was not damaged. I has hoping to have antenna in the attic but after some testing decided it had to be mounted outside to work the best. Antenna does work better than rabbit ears but I don't get the 20 stations like other users, but a did double my stations, so for that I am happy.
Good HDTV AntennaNovember 29, 2008 Brings in a good sharp picture. I have mine mounted in the attic and it works fine. Need to aim it carefully.
Works indoors for me, near RTP, NCNovember 29, 2008 Works great indoors, as research & other recommendations noted. Skipped buying the stand, since it can sit on the floor or a speaker.
In normal weather conditions, I can leave it pointed East & pickup all local broadcasts (under about 50 mi) without needing to adjust the antenna. This includes stations coming from the West like PBS (UNC-TV). Cloudy/windy/rainy sometimes requires adjustments, but that's expected & acceptable for free HD/DTV.
The setup presently is a Phillips HD-ready TV (CRT style) with a Samsung HDTV tuner. Previously had been using the smallest antenna style from an ATI HDTV Wonder kit, which had trouble maintaining a signal since it was designed for closer towers.

Shipping was fast also; in time for a big weekend football game!
Simple and effective OTA solutionNovember 29, 2008 I WAS using a silver sensor amplified unit and dissatisfied with frequent drop-outs and "1/2 power" signal strength on my OTA tuner. I simply removed the silver sensor and plugged-in the DB4 and I immediately had 100% signal strength on all but one local channel, and that one is 75% and works fine too.
My DB4 is hanging on the wall in my garage facing the general direction of our local towers with 20' of RG6 coax running to the tuner. I'm ~10 miles from the towers in Dayton, OH. Now, I want to move the unit to the attic and see if I can pull-in Cincinnati or Columbus (~50 miles). Bottom line: This unit works as advertised!
West Los Angeles - exactly what I needed!November 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been battling for over the air HD reception for 1.5 years now trying more inexpensive modes. Finally bought this DB4 and am ecstatic at the quality. My HD TiVo is pulling in 89% reception on CBS where previously was getting 61 or so at best and would drop to 0% depending on the day.
Of course, I've only just now installed it so inclement weather will be the true test.
One downer - the included mounting bracket is for a 2.5" pipe diameter which is just a teeny bit too small to mount to an exhaust pipe on our roof. I'll have to run to Home Depot and grab a bigger U-bolt to mount it a bit more securely than it is now.
For reference, I'm in Mar Vista (West Los Angeles) and can see the mountains (from the roof on a non-smoggy day) where the transmitters are by sight, and I believe I'm 26.4 miles from the towers.
