Great iPod speakers!November 24, 2008 I used to plug in my iPod to the stereo speakers in our family room with a $9 splitter cable. But earlier this year, my husband upgraded his Tivo & moved the old one into the family room & there were no more jacks for me to use for the iPod. (BOO! OTOH, it's nice having two Tivos, now, too!) I already had the iM600 speaker dock which is nice for small areas & very portable due to the light weight & rechargeable battery. But for our family room (which is where we do most of our entertaining), the acoustics are not good & the ceiling is about 20 feet high. So the iM600 sounded like "a radio" in that room. So I went on the hunt for something to use when I'm cooking, entertaining or doing housework, since I can no longer hook up my iPod to the speakers. This speaker dock sounds great - it really does "fill up a room" (MUCH more so than the iM600.) I'm not an audiophile, but I do like a good sound. I'm hard pressed to tell the difference between this speaker dock & when I used to use our speakers.
As others have said, it would be nice to have a remote for this. OTOH, the iM600 has a remote & it seems whenever I want to use it, I have to think a few minutes & figure out where the remote is, unless I velcro it to my body. IMO, remotes are only good when you're "planted." If you're up & about, doing housework, cooking, entertaining, I tend to lose track of the remote anyway, so in one respect, NBD to not have a remote.
old guys reviewOctober 13, 2008 I love the portability and the sound levels are great for outdoor activities in a large space. The only thing missing is a handle but that would tempt me to use it as a boombox. I've only had it for about a month and it's been to a tailgate and a picnic. It literally can go anywhere indoors or out with power the options. The ability to plug any device into it will also come in very handy.
IM9 iPod Sound SystemSeptember 30, 2008 Despite it's small size, the unit puts out very good sound and the sound quality is above average. It's versatility is excellent, using either batteries or plugging into an outlet. It would be great on the beach, patio, RVs, etc. I was very pleased with this system on my patio, and decided not to install outdoor speakers once I heard the music this system provided. It comes with a nice carrying case which is an added bonus. One small nit, the bracket that allows the system to stand upright is a little piece of plastic that pulls out from the base; it appears fragile, but so far so good. I recommend this system for anyone desiring a small, easy to carry system that puts out big sound for it's size. I did not experience any buzzing or hum cited in other reviews.

I bought this a year ago to go with my 60gb classic. Incredible sound even if it is a little bass-heavy. I just upgraded to a Touch 2G and I was very happy with how it fit in the IM9 without any dock adapter. The problem is that it won't charge the Touch! It says "Charging is not supported with this accessory." Bummer, because the Pandora app sounds incredible on the IM9. It's like having satellite radio without the fees.
Great Sound, Small PackageAugust 5, 2008 The im9 sound great, and to my benefit, is extremely light. I recently took it on a river trip, and it performed admirably for three days on the same batteries. The only drawback, for me, is the fact that the Nano adapter does not fit my 2nd gen. Makes me wonder if a first gen would even fit, or if Altec Lansing just went 'whatever' when they made the thing. I tried to get them to replace it, but they said they'd send a "replacement", leading me to believe it would be the same as the one in the box. Their customer service definitely leaves something to be desired. That said, I give it 4 stars, all for the sound quality.
