polk audio r150July 29, 2008 These speakers more than serve my purpose they are now my front speakers and replace the smaller satellite speakers (moved these to my side speakers) I now have 7.1 with an Onkyo TX-SR605 stereo powering everything, Polk PSW110 subwoofer sounds great Skip
At least they make a soundMay 21, 2008 Got these for free with my Sonos system. The price made them an extra star. No base to mention, sharp high and mid sound make them sit in our 4 year daughters room playing audio farie-tales. They work there.

I own a bunch of polk monitors, lsi speakers. Wanted a new pair to complete the surround sound setup. Got it for 50$ in fry's... went home. It is not worth the 50$. You could do lot better with cheapo Sony or BIC speakers. It completely missed the mid and low bass. Voices, Strings are handled well. It can be used with a sub that goes really high 100 Hz or more. If you ever plan to use it as standalone speakers look else where. I threw out of the window and bought a monitor 40. This speaker doesnt do any justification at the full price amazon is listing for.
outstandind performance and valueApril 11, 2008 The R150 speakers are outstanding. The entire line of products; from their budget conceous to their top end, are amoung the industries best. I have been employed in the consumer products service industry for 38 years. Polk Audio has adeveloped and maintained one of the industries best products and reputations for many decades.
Quiet? Sounds great! Loud? Not so much.April 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I agree with Mr. Gruen's review: at volume (not cranked, distorted - just 5/10ths) they get kinda muddy, lose their sheen and tinkle and sound like they politely have their hand over their mouth. Odd, but at low volume they actually sound fantastic - balanced, clear, bright-but-not-tinny. I'm compelled to adjust the treble up a few db to compensate the more I turn the knob.
They feel somewhat well built, a little hollow-sounding, although I haven't taken them apart to tell and frankly, since I have them hooked up and in place, I guess I don't want to know.
Don't bother trying for "loud" from these little guys. They'll start to sputter break up well before you can hurt your hearing. I suspect these were engineered specifically for surround applications as sides or backs - they're very non-intrusive that way.
I use them to augment ceiling mounted stereo-only speakers, feeding TV, CD's and XM Radio through a wonderfully quiet and simple 15 year old 100watt/per Yamaha reciever. When I light up the whole stystem: kitchen, great room, dining, patio (through a Sima balancer), they do the job sufficient enough to get three stars.
Note that stereo-only TV augmentation is very good - it's CD's and XM that sound a little muddy.
