Good system for the priceDecember 19, 2008 Hello everyone, I have had my system for about a few weeks now, and feel pretty good about it. It makes a big difference compared to the LG 50" TV plasma speakers. The only thing I don't like about it is the cheep speaker wires it comes with. I suppose I will upgrade to better wires later. It also does a clicking sound from the relay when the broadcast switches from Dolby to regular sound on commercials and back again while watching TV. Not a big deal. Another issue I have noticed if you leave the sub plugged in it makes a slight hum after the amp is turned off, but no disturbance after the amp is powered up and operating. So I just unplug the sub when finished watching TV. I would recommend it for the price of the system. If you want more, expect to spend $1000.00 or more for a system. It is not to complicated to hook up and is compatible with my Dish Network remote, unlike my new Samsung 2500 Blue Ray DVD. I will not communicate with the Dish remote for nothing. I have no idea why. I guess you can't just have one remote for everything anymore. Happy listening everyone. C/ya later, Drew
AwsomeDecember 11, 2008 I recently bought this system a week ago for my parents christmas gift. I had a kenwood be for I got this one. Then kenwood was nice but it only had one optical port on the back. This one has two which is nice and the sub on the kenwood would distort while listening to movies and just music. This sub has not distorted and it is a 100 watts more then the other one. I like that the speakers are bigger and the ipod dock is nice but the remote will not work cause I have an iphone. Overall this is a great system for the price I would buy from onkyo again.
Good system except for subwooferNovember 11, 2008 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
I set this system up and enjoyed the great sound but the subwoofer made a humming noise. Onkyo said that it needed repair and sent me to a certified technician. For me, that is an hour drive. The tech said the power transformer was busted but they couldn't get a new part from Onkyo. So I called Onkyo again and they said to return the entire system to Amazon, which I did. After a couple more hours of driving and packing it up. It seems there is a quality control issue at Onkyo so I will stay away from their products in the future. The tech recommended Bose, Yamaha, and JBL/Infinity.
