Nice AdditionDecember 4, 2008 This system works well in my small (8X12) basement TV room. Sound is good and the speaker unobtrusive.
Easy and great sound from inexpensive system!December 1, 2008 I just purchased this on "Black Friday" at another retailer for $199.00, and I am not disappointed! I purchased this system for a new house that we moved into without pre-wiring for surround and in a room that was not really a great set-up for multiple surround speakers. I was looking for something to add to my HDTV/DVD setup without breaking the bank and would give us much more sound than just the TV speakers. I have to say that I was really surpised with how much sound came from the system. I had it setup in 5 minutes and turned on the first action movie I came to "Live Free or Die Hard" The subwoofer really sounded great with all of the explosions and the dialog was easily understood. After tweaking the setup a little, I sounded even better. VERY easy to setup and great to listen to. Well worth the $199 I paid and even the $299 Amazon has it listed for. It also has multiple HDMI inputs for TV, DVD, and GAMING SYSTEM. Does it have the full effect of a true 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 system? No, but if you want to add some great sound to your system without adding wiring, mounting speakers, and shelling out big bucks, this is the way to go!
Nice alternativeDecember 1, 2008 I purchased this unit to accompany a LCD flat screen that I had installed in my bedroom, after being disappointed with the sound of the television. It was easy to mount under the TV, although there was no cutout in the back of the speaker to route cables going to television. The solution to this was to mount the speaker on a 3/4 inch piece of wood (painted black)to allow the cables to route behind. This also let me hit wall studs to ensure it did not come down.
The sound is SO much better than the television speakers. It obviously does not match the sound of a full blown surround system driven by a large amp, however it fits the bill for my needs as a second system in the bedroom. I saw a prior review that it was not listed as a compatible device for a Harmony remote- THIS IS INCORRECT. I have a Harmony remote and it IS a device listed and my remote is controlling my system perfectly. The only con I have is no television display with the SONY unit. It would be nice to be able to see volume level on the television since the main unit sits on the floor. Overall, however, I am very happy with this purchase- especially at $199.
Not bad.December 1, 2008 I was pretty impressed by this thing. It actually produces a pretty decent surround sound effect, with plenty of bass. It can't replace a real surround sound setup, but its way, way better than TV speakers.
A couple things:
1. The volume doesn't get very high, so if your looking for a living room setup, than don't bother with this. However, it is IDEAL for a small bedroom.
2. There is no equalizer or manual adjustment of bass/treble. There are only pre-configured settings you can use, which I had no problem with, but it's worth noting.
Overall, this is a great system. It's very simple to use, and easy to setup (took me about 5 minutes). The sound quality is excellent, and really does sound like an authentic surround sound setup. If your looking for a surround sound system for a small room and don't want to spend too much money, you can't go wrong with this product.
Sony CT-100, very happy with it !!!!!!!!!!November 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned more than a few full-on 5.1 systems, Onkyo, Denon, Bose, Yamaha and Samsung just to name some,, so I do know what a real system sounds like and can do. A few years ago I got to the point were I was tired of wires and speakers all over the room so I switched to the Yamaha YSP soundbars and have since owned the YSP-800, 900, 1100 and 4000. Then I started seeing some really great reviews of the new Sony HT CT-100 online and on AVSforum.com so I decided to pick one up and check it out. I was wondering how a soundbar selling for so cheap would sound, my verdict, it sounds really good. The price, the 3 HDMI inputs, the ease of use, the sound and a few other things make this a killer little soundbar,,, very happy with the purchase and its a keeper. Do understand that to make the CT-100 sound its best you will need to play with the settings and make sure to set your BluRay player to PCM output and "NOT" Bitstream. How does the Sony compare with the YSP's I have owned,, not bad at all. While the YSP's do put out a better surround effect the Sony comes very close to sounding as good as the YSP's. Anyhow, bottom line, the CT-100 is a great purchase !!!!!
