It's time so stop stallingDecember 2, 2008 Ok, I'm not the most knowledgable person out there on these things, but I like to think that I am. I can't vouch for high end Blu Ray players that cost the mortgage of my house but I could tell you one thing, if you haven't taken the step into the world of high def yet then it sure is the time.
Stop being scared, this isn't a fad, it's not going to pass. You need to get into the now and this is a good way to start. Well, a HD T.V would be where to start but that's a totally different review. Let's talk Blu Ray..
Since the PS3 was launched I've had a Blu Ray player and it is something else. But I couldn't trek the PS3 back and forth to the bedroom from the living room if we wanted to watch a Blu Ray movie in bed. So we went around and picked up this gem and I couldn't have been more happier. You hear people talking about how big of a deal it is to be able to see the individual strands of hair and beads of sweat on someone in a Blu Ray movie but you're probably like naaaaaaah who needs that...
Ha, you do my friend, trust me.
I have this player connected to the Samsung LN40A550 40" LCD in my bedroom and haven't had a good nights sleep since. Also added a mini fridge to the room and cut a hole in the wall for easier access to the bathroom... Ok, so I didn't cut a hole in the wall, but I bought a bedpan. Anyways, the combination of the two is amazing and works like a dream. Still floors me when I turn on the Blu Ray and the t.v knows it's on and switches to the input for it. Technology, lemme tell ya. The picture you get with an HDMI cable connected is so vivid and sharp you'll constantly find yourself wondering how in the world did you ever watch a movie without it looking anything like this. And don't think the magic is only with Blu Rays, because if you popped in a regular DVD let's say anything from Pixar, you'll notice a very, very impressive change from the upconversion that the player can do.
Now, with it being in the bedroom I don't have it connected to any major sound system (had to have a reason to make me sit in the living room,) so I couldn't tell you anything about that. But, I can say that compared to my PS3 it is a bit slower starting up when turned on, maybe that pesky cell processor has something to do with it.
Other than that I really have nothing bad to say about this player and like I mentioned before, unless you got your nose held high and need the most expensive thing out there to satisfy your ego, this player right here is the best investment that you could make to ensure that you see for yourself first hand what true HD is all about.
And when you do get it I want you to honestly tell me that counting the beads of sweat on someone's head in a blu ray movie is not the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Blu Ray in motion.December 1, 2008 I recently purchased the Samsung BD-P 1500 Player. I was very impressed with it's video and audio output. The unit is very user friendly and will recommend it to anyone who is contemplating purchasing a Blu Ray Player. You will not regret the investment.
great lil playerDecember 1, 2008 good lil player, wish it were free! but got a good deal with my 46" 650 series, only problem it is a lil noisy other than that great blu ray player
Good secondary player!!November 29, 2008 I've owned the unit for about a month now and it is a very good player for my second HDTV. I use a custom built HTPC and PS3 in my main home theater, and bought this one for my secondary room. The load times are a bit slow, but the performance is great as well as the price point. The unit is a bit too slow for blu-ray disk based games like Dragons Lair, but for basic playback it is a good buy. The remote is the same as most Samsung remotes, long and uncomfortable, but most of us use a universal anyway so.....
Played DVD's, but would not play Blu-RayNovember 28, 2008 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
Amazon was great, got me the unit in 2-days. Everything was great, it worked on all CD's and DVDs so the kids where happy. But then my box set of 007 Blu-ray disk arrived and they didn't work. I tried three disk and they would load the menu, I choose something, and then it would restart the menu. I was lucky to have a wireless internal connection from my DVR sitting right there and decided to try to upgrade the firmware. It took 3 reboots to get the network working on the player, but it finally connected their site. I took over an hour to download the firmware, and my DSL line is 1-MB/s. When the upgrade finished the BLu-Ray disk started to work. It's a below average player and I shouldn't have to upgrade it to play Blu-Ray disk. I should have stuck with plan A, just buy a PS3.
