6-Hour Battery Life is a deceiving featureSeptember 7, 2008 I read other reviews that the battery life is based on screen image - adjusting brightness and contrast but there should be some feature on this product to let you know at what levels you can set for 3 hour, 4 hour and up to 6 hour battery life. I took this on a 4-hour plane ride and it only lasted 2 1/2 hours. Quite a disappointment. Pivoting screen delights my daughter and the image is fine Overall, I'm good with this purchase.
enjoying itSeptember 6, 2008 I've only had the DVD payer a short time, but to date it's great. Bought it for my bathroom so I could enjoy movies as I take a long bath. No problems. And I like that I could take it in the road it I wanted to... haven't yet but I can see doing it. I look forward to using it for the long term.
Things you should know...September 6, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this player based on the good reviews on Amazon.com. Very first impressions were good. The red is a cool color. As I played with it and discovered what it does not do, I became more and more disappointed. I have a lot of British comedy DVDs that I was looking forward to watching on Atlantic flights. I can confirm that this player is absolutely region one only. However, it gets worse. I have some region free British DVDs that also will not play on the Sony. It is NTSC only. No PAL. There is some discussion about how long the battery lasts. I haven't tested this, but suppose you want a second battery. How much do you suppose a second battery for a $165 device would cost? $30.00? $50.00? $70.00? Nope, try $100.00! Check it out the part number is NP-FX110. Suppose you want to connect this player to a TV. Your only option is composite video. The lowest video quality connection method. No S-VHS, No Component video. Several other players in this price range have SD card slots. Some even have USB connectivity and can play still images/video from external sources. The Sony doesn't. In all fairness, if all you are interested in is playing Region 1 DVDs on the built in screen and don't care about additional features this is not a bad choice. The picture quality isn't bad and it has a 800*480 resolution screen. But I'm sending mine back. The lack of PAL support was a deal breaker. I'm getting a Philips PET1030.
satisfiedSeptember 1, 2008 Im totally satisfied with this purchase, picture quality is very crisp, a little pricey but worth every penny.
Superior DVD PlayerAugust 31, 2008 I spent about an hour one day at Best Buy with all of the different portable DVD players lined up next to each other. I took the same DVD and put them into each one, watching for picture clarity and sound. This Sony DVD player was far superior to all of the other player when it came to picture quality. None were even close to it. The volume is very loud and would be more than enough for anyone in any situation. I was worried about that at first since the original DVD player I wanted was fairly quiet. The sound quality is only average, but it's good enough for my 2 year old. I would recommend this DVD player to anyone who is looking for one that is the best all around and doesn't want to spend a ton of money. I plan on keeping this one for a long time.

Sony DAV-IS10 Home Theater System $439.99 - $799.99 from 11 stores. User rating:0.0 out of 5.
The 5.1 channel home-theater-in-a-box system features five tiny speakers - each about the size of a golf ball. The system, matched with a compact, single disc DVD/CD player/receiver, includes a unique subwoofer that helps the tiny speakers create sounds typically reserved for full size speakers.
While the system features small speakers, it packs all the power of conventional home theater-in-a-box systems with 450 watts of total system power (satellite speakers 50W x 5, plus 2-way subwoofer 100W x 2). The system is specially tuned to deliver a natural sound field that takes the focus off the subwoofer while supplementing mid range and lower frequencies.
