5 out of 5 stars Be a dancing star   January 7, 2009
I know why Lisa has that rock hard body now - it's not as easy as it looks! At first I struggled to keep up, but because its building on basic dance moves, I caught on very quickly. Good warm ups too- nice and slow.

5 out of 5 stars For anyone that loves dancing- this video is an A plus!   January 5, 2009

My favorite extension of Dancing with the Stars! Lisa Rinna is just as great as she was on the show- she really pushed me to get my cardio up and her cute outfits only made me want to work it harder! Not much of a fitness fiend, but learning key steps from my favorite dances is enough motivation. For anyone that loves dancing- this video is an A plus!

5 out of 5 stars Easy to follow, simple and entertaining.   January 5, 2009

I lost more than 5 pounds with this workout video. Lisa Rinnas DVD: Jive Jump Ballroom Bump really worked for me. I haven't found a workout this simple and entertaining EVER. I highly recommend it to anyone that doesn't have time to leave the house. I just popped it in the DVD player and danced off all my extra calories.

2 out of 5 stars Yes, It Hurts.   December 17, 2008

I've never seen Dancing with the Stars, but I enjoy dance-based exercising. As such, I decided to give this a shot.

A few minutes into the warm-up, I was regretting it.

The cueing is poor, frequently not happening until she's already transitioned to the next move. Confusingly, she hasn't followed the trend of most competent exercise videos of cueing in reverse; when she says 'left', she's moving to the viewer's right, which is disorienting. Her background dancers are frequently on a slightly different rhythm and often move on to the next movement even before she does - which means they're even farther ahead of the cueing.

What ultimately lost me, though, was one simple line: "And, yes, it hurts. But you can do it!" She goes on to say, "Push yourself, push yourself," and wryly adds, "but don't hurt yourself." At this point, the only thing left in my head was 'oh, HELL no'. I stopped the video there.

I did end up watching it again - watching, not following - to see if the dance portions improved upon the warm-up. Her cueing still stinks, but you also now get inconvenient camera work: she's telling you to change your feet and the camera is focusing on her torso. The music in this portion is barely there, so it's like dancing to nothing but her cues - and it's been established, what I think of those. One dance segment was enough for me.

Overall, I really can't find anything to recommend this video for. Lisa does nothing for me as I can't appreciate a demonstrator who urges me to pursue pain and the workout itself is not the least bit fun. This is a video that will quickly find itself as a donation to my local library, I think.
