Amazon.com
Early on in Robocop 3, an action figure of our metal hero on the nightstand in a little girl's room informs us that he's now become a children's toy. The image is right on the money; despite following up two of the most violent, hilarious sci-fi/action films ever made, Robocop 3 is strictly for the kiddies. It's not just that the gore has been toned down considerably to make for a PG-13 rating; also excised is the straight-faced portrait of a world run by corporate fascism. When evil corporation OCP, and its even more evil Japanese parent company, plan to raze a Detroit neighborhood to put up the shining new Delta City, the residents (including the aforementioned adolescent, who conveniently happens to be a computer expert) gang up to fight back, just like the angry neighbors in Death Wish V. Robocop (played this time out by Robert John Burke, Peter Weller having wisely passed) could be a hindrance to the companies' plans, so a ninja android is sent in to deal with him. Even all this could have been enjoyable, in a campy sort of way, but nothing pays off as either comedy or action--tellingly, the two big showdowns with the ninja start exhilaratingly (Robocop's clunky movements hilariously counterpoised by the android's acrobatic leaps), only to end just when they're getting good. Director Fred Dekker has some nice stylistic touches scattered about, but not nearly enough to save the film. One high note, though: The animated "Johnny Rehab" spot may be the funniest ad in the whole series. --Bruce Reid

Description
Omni Consumer Products, the conglomerate that designed RoboCop, now owns Detroit. The company plans to demolish one of the city's largest neighborhoods to build a gleaming city of the future--after an army of ruthless mercenaries finishes throwing everyone out of their homes. But RoboCop, sworn to protect the public, joins forces with a band of urban freedom fighters battling to save their neighborhood.

4 out of 5 stars robocop is here to save the day   April 24, 2008
Robocop 3 wasn't nearly as unintentionally comical as I had hoped. Instead, it's pretty similar to the original Robocop, but with updated movie technics to make the picture and effects at least appear better, even though the storytelling is just as cheesy as it always was.

One thing that was very cheesy was the ending where Robocop finds an ability to fly. It was extremely funny watching him fly around the city taking out the bad guys.

The amount of action was pretty good, as far as enjoyment in that area is concerned. As for the storytelling aspect, well, a little girl entered the scene in the very beginning that showed her parents getting shoved into a bus, never to be seen again. The little girl, who's a computer genius, becomes friends with Robocop.

If you liked the first Robocop, I believe you'll this one just as much. There's plenty of humor as well, mostly from the words Robocop says. Just forget about "flying Robocop" near the end.

5 out of 5 stars Ignore the bad reviews!!..Give this movie a shot!!..It's Awesome!!!   September 18, 2007

After hearing so many negative reviews and seeing that this movie is rated pg-13 and doesn't have the original guy who played robocop in the 1st two films!!...I had no interest in even watching it!!!..I loved the first two movies because of the dark humor, great story-lines and the excellent graphics!!...anyways...I ended up buying the 20th anniversary edition of the 1st movie that just released...then happened to come across both the 2nd and 3rd movies in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart...I debated so long on whether to buy the 3rd film or not...I ended up buying it only to complete my robocop collection....I waited about a week later to watch it...needless to say....I LOVED IT!!!....The dark humor is still there!!!..I didn't notice a change at all in the movie being that it's rated pg-13...still shows realist gun shots, swearing..etc...and most of all....this new guy who plays robocop...LOOKS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE ORIGINAL GUY WHO PLAYED ROBOCOP..PETER!!!...with, and without the helmet!!...if you're a robo cop fan..definately watch this film..you won't think twice about adding it to the collection!!!

5 out of 5 stars Robert John Burke   August 16, 2007
The guy rocks as RoboCop! John is also Denis Leary's cousin on Rescue Me. Mr. Burke should go on Rescue Me as RoboCop haha.

5 out of 5 stars "Don't be fooled these people are terrorists!"   July 1, 2006
1 out of 2 found this review helpful

The powers that be want to relocate women, children, the elderly from their homes to make way for Delta City. These people are labeled as "terrorists" for not wanting to leave. This was back in 1993.

That is the great thing about science fiction, you can point all all the injustice and absurdities of our time and get away with it.

Judge the movie on its on merits and don't be biased because the title is Robocop 3. It is fun and it is good science fiction. It's message of "out of control executive power" is even a bit scary as it is too close to home these days.

Oh and talk about fun, catch Bradley Whitford from West Wing and Jill Henessey from Law and Order and Rip Torn from "Men in Black" in supporting roles. It makes the movie worth watching over and over.

1 out of 5 stars Robocop 3 should be arrested and shot!   March 8, 2006

Man, I just loved Paul Verhoeven's vision of Robocop depicted in the first Robocop. The graphic violence and dark humor for sure, but there was this undiscribable "mood" and "atmosphere" that a quality moviemaker brings to a film. Compared to the first Robocop, Robocop 3 should be arrested and shot. Robocop 3 is in violation of Robocop's third directive, "protect the innocent." This film definately harms the innocent viewer. Where to start? Robocop befriends a group of rag tag, poverty stricken homeless good guys who are fighting against the evil land developers who team up with, get this, the "Spatter Punks," punker rocker looking guys who terrify even the cops. Robocop does the cliche driving his car off of a parking garage to land in the middle of a gunfight. Also there is the precocious wiz kid cliche. Then, there are robot ninjas. That, alone should be enough to convince you. Also, Robocop flies around on a jet pack. I rest my case. Lastly, Robocop 3 just lacks that atmosphere and mood that made the first Robocop something funny and compeling.
