Rip Off!December 22, 2008 Saw this movie many years ago, and bought a copy to give it another watch.
So much for quality. The manufacturer appeared to have just taken an old copy of the film and slapped it on a DVD. The colors were faded and the sound track was fuzzy--almost garbled.
And to make matters worse, the film wasn't as good as I had remembered, but if it was a favorite, the poor quality of reproduction makes it worthless.

A great action/adventure movie with humorJuly 22, 2008 This movie really delivers escapism, humor, drama and some believable characters. No action super heroes here, just four average guys from LA looking to get out from under bill collectors and a recession. The casting is great, especially Ernest Borgnine as the condescending gun merchant (wearing bib overalls and operating out of an old van) whose only concern is "You boys aren't going to be doing anything to hurt any animals now are you?"). James Coburn seems an odd choice for a South American drug lord but carries it off well. Anthony Quinn is perfect as the inept leader of an even more inept bad of former "revolutionaries" who have turned to petty banditry. The jailbreak scene where Vennera and Little meet Lindsey Wagner is hilarious. But the humor is tempered with drama when they all, at different points, have to come to terms with the fact that they had to kill people to keep from being killed. They got in over their heads and know it, but as Davison tells Brolin at one point "I'm glad I did this. Just once in my life I wanted to do something where I had to put it on the line. I've been scared all my life, might as well do something worth being scared about".

FOUR UNEMPLOYED GUYS PARACHUTE INTO SOUTH AMERICA WITH THE PLAN TO ROB A DRUG LORD. NOT ALWAYS AS GOOD AS I WOULD HOPE IT TO BE, BUT AT LEAST IT DID HAVE SOME FUNNY MOMENTS. OVER THE YEARS, THIS FILM HAS BECOME QUITE FORGOTTEN. NOW THAT IT'S ON DVD, YOU CAN FIND THIS MOVIE FOR AS CHEAP AS $1.00, WHICH IS WHAT I BOUGHT THIS DVD FOR. IF YOU LIKE ACTION FILMS WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR, THEN WATCH THIS.

It doesn't get much better than this with action, adventure, good humor and everything goes wrong. Four layed off guys hear a rumor about a drug lord(James Coburn) who keeps 5 million, in cash, at his hacienda in South America. Of course, they need firepower(Ernest Bourgnine), they run afoul of local banditos(Anthony Quinn), pick up an expatriated American(Lindsey Wagner), land in jail, are shot at, beat up and are depending on a few drug running, vietnam vets in a badly missing and sputtering plane to rescue them. it is a very fun and exciting ending when it all comes together. I recorded my copy from the TV, with ads and cuts, because i can't find a commercial reproduction. i would buy a good quality DVD for sure. *UPDATE* 4-2-04 my dvd is on the way! you should give this movie a try. it's only $[price]. a bargain!
