A Few Complaints, But Still A Good ValueJanuary 24, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When looking for a new mobile CD Deck, I had a few requirements in mind that it would have to meet. I wanted an auxiliary input right on the front, MP3 playback, a rotary encoder (volume dial), and a flip down face. The JVC KDG420 met all of those requirements. It navigates MP3 CD with ease, and the aux input works great.
Unfortunately, the rotary dial is a little hard to turn sometimes without accidentally muting the sound. I had to get used to it so I could make sure not to turn it in such a way (now it's not such a problem). Also, the flip down face works fine, but it doesn't really grant you any of the advantages that should come from that. There's still a lot of wasted space above the display.
My other complaints are for characteristics I could/should have detected before buying, but I'll write about it here in-case it could help anyone else.
The display, like all other displays with a blue background and white text, is very annoying at night. Instead of small letters and numbers glowing in the dark, the entire display glows, and it can be quite distracting. JVC makes the KD-G510 which costs just a little bit more (and otherwise looks the same with the same features plus a remote) but has a much better display screen. In retrospect I would have spent more for that.
Also, the buttons aren't placed or shaped very well. Other CD decks have buttons positioned and shaped so it's easy to find the button you want without looking at it. But this JVC uses lots of same-sized, straight-edged buttons placed close together. This makes the cd-player look a lot nicer, classier, and more professional than a lot of others, but it's a little harder to use while driving.
Overall, a great cd-deck (if these are the features you're looking for) considering the price. I'm happy with mine.
Great CD player for the moneyJanuary 23, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My parents got me this cd player for Christmas. For what you pay for the player, it is really a great buy.
It features and AUX input. All you have to do is buy an AUX cable and you can attach you MP3 player to it and it has a function so that you can play the music off of your personal player through the speakers in your car.
Also you can burn mp3 or wma cds straight off of your computer and play them in this player and it displays the artist, cd and song names.
You can play the radio and it has quite a few preset buttons.
Regular cds work in this player, but I highly reccommend the afformentioned mp3 or wma cd since you can put more songs on them.
This player is also XM satellite ready in case you are interested in installing XM in your car.
All in all this is a great player and well worth the money.
