It is amazing ...Old fashioned radioAugust 29, 2008 It is manual but it is great in Shortwave, FM and Medium wave. I like it !!
It is great if you use it in the middle east Europe or africa more than US because the short wave in US is only used for religious stations of christianity!! Mainly!!
It has LW Long wave ...It is still used in turkey and some middle east countries ...I don't know!
Good luck
Nice and simpleAugust 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought Sony ICF-SW11 in somewhere in Europe for 63 US bucks. Radio has modern design, good strong knob, rotated antenna and just two AA batteries. On eleven floors of my hotel at 6pm I have received many stations from all over Europe, Asia and Middle East. I didn't expect strong signal and hot sound from this small radio and I was surprised. I have enjoyed surf around world news and spend hours. Short way doesn't overload and rotated antenna really help to get direct signal. In North America I have experience received less radio station, but reception depended where I tried to receive. In concrete building it doesn't receive any SW.AM and FM work perfect. FM keep strong signal and haven't any fuse like cheap radio. AM sensitive enough to receive station from miles away. Radio has long life battery and good definition sound. Overall it is good radio for money and has enough entertainments for travelers. I am recommending this radio.
selectivity is excellentMarch 14, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I travel AMTRAK regularly across the US, and always have a radio with me. I have purchased several over the last few years, and have mixed feelings about them. I have found that it is getting more difficult all the time to buy a "radio" without getting flashlights, wind-up cranks, and MP3/IPOD players. Most importantly, I wanted a radio with excellent selectivity and sensitivity when searching for AM and FM broadcast stations in the remote areas that The Great Northern Amtrak travels. This little Sony, with a Stereo-FM through the headset, is wonderful. I have even started listening to a low-power FM station in my neighboring city that I didn't even know existed. I was a little disappointed in the small size of the radio when I got the box, but since I listen through earphones 90% of the time, I guess size doesn't matter. It is well worth the small price, and glad to get a real "radio" without the other unneeded stuff. Oh yea, the SW works fine in my area as well, as long as you followed the band switching that occurs during the different periods of the day.

Sony quality hasn't diminished.October 20, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I had the precursor of this model, The Sony Icf SW10 in l996, when they were made in Japan. I hesitated buying this one because, like many items of this variety, it now outsourced to China. However, I find this one to be very fine and certainly equal in quality as the one I purchased in l996. I am sure Sony insists on strict quality control, no matter where they are made, buy with confidence.
