Thanks to the easy clock adjust system, Model R-2 combines the simplest clock/alarm timer adjustment with exceptionally powerful sound quality and performance. A large LCD display with a stunning and distinctive blue backlight allows effortless placement in any room and the unit can be easily seen and heard from a distance. Also, due to its integrated rechargeable battery, the R-2 can be simply moved from the bedroom into the bathroom, kitchen, hallway or main-room.

AS PROMISED!February 24, 2008 Item works just as stated, I connected my Sandisk MP3 player & off I went listening to music from my MP3 portable player for hours! It is also little, stylish & has a handle for easy grip! Almost forgot, it has a built in chargable battery (included) when one might want to go to the beach (its a must in Miami!)
Good Price, Poor FunctionDecember 20, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm a sucker for portable radios and have them all over the house. I was able to justify buying the Teac for the baby's room since he likes music while he's going to sleep. I was initially pleased with this radio, as the construction and styling are top-flight. But performance is only adequate and the radio is lacking some very basic functions. There doesn't appear to be a "search" function, for example, so you're forced to tune for stations by turing the digital tuning knob. What makes it worse is that the tuning has a long delay before the sound comes up, so you end up turning the knob slowly 90.1 .... 90.2 ....90.3 Unless you know the frequency you're looking for, it's painful. Additionally, the buttons for "setting station memory" and "searching station memory" are the same size and directly next to each other--a recipe for disaster (relatively speaking). Sound is decent, but reception is only fair--certainly well below my Tivoli and Sangean WR2. I'll probably end up attaching an iPod and running it that way, as I'm tired of clicking the wrong buttons or losing my frequency and having to search it out again.
Bad batteries or charger.November 11, 2007 The batteries would not charge. In the event of a power failure, all station presets are lost and it cannot be used as a portable radio.
DEFECTIVE PRODUCTJuly 6, 2007 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have had two of these radios: one to replace the other. I returned the first because the battery would not hold a charge for more than an hour. The replacement radio was even worse.
This product is either woefully designed or is shipped with a totally inadequate battery.
This is not a portable radio. It could be, perhaps, with batteries that last the 6 to 7 hours stated in the Users' Manual, rather than less than a half hour.
Outstanding!June 10, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
They are wonderful! I bought an extra one for my living room!
In case you haven't seen the photos, these are the units with the handle on the left side of the unit (from the front) with a round blue display on the right side of the face. They have a single speaker but the sound quality is superb. You can get a powerful sound out of them. I don't have any issues with the "click" settings for the volume - for me the change is gradual enough that I get the volume level I want. They really are solid pieces - metal cases with a powder-coat finish and solid rubber feet - just a very quality look and feel to them. They can be set for two separate alarms, and you can hook up an MP3 player, etc up to them for playback. The cord for this is included but is only about 6". I'd say radio reception is average - the same as I get from my other radios, and fine for me. I'm going to also use the second unit as an auxiliary speaker for my laptop. AND they have a built-in backup battery unit that is always charged up when it's plugged in. You can completely disengage the cord and use it as a portable radio out on the deck! One thing-if you need it really dark for sleeping you may not like these - the display is a pretty blue but gives off enough light that you don't want it facing you - it's pretty much a night light. The settings are straightforward but you do need to follow the instruction manual.
I checked them out at other vendors and they "list" for $169. They actually are even cheaper now than when I bought them - just under $50 from North Star Electronics through Amazon as of 01-23-2006. The rules say I can't list the URLs but you may want to look for the "no picture" listing for this better price!
