Wider screen lets you see more of what's around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen
and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen
Widescreen -- See Better, See More The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.
FM Transmitter -- Hear Better, Hear More Instead of straining your ears to hear turn-by-turn directions or your favorite MP3s, you can enjoy wireless FM audio transmission via the nAvi 660's wireless FM transmitter. Tune your car's radio to the appropriate station and you'll hear all the nAvi's audio, including voice prompts, MP3s, audio books, and more, directly through your vehicle's stereo system. The nAvi 660 includes many "must-have" entertainment and travel tools, including digital music and audio book playback, JPEG picture viewer, currency converters, and more. All these great features make the nAvi 660 a complete Personal Travel Assistant.
First Rate Map Data The nAvi 660 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps, including a hefty POI database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nAvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping.
In addition, the nAvi 660 accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs
Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store.
Hands-Free Calling In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. The nAvi 660's Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker lets match it to any bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nAvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log.
Integrated FM Traffic Receiver
Steer clear of traffic with an integrated FM traffic receiver designed to receive alerts from TMC Clear Channel about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nAvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time.
In most areas, TMC Clear Channel traffic broadcasts are continuous â there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions.
A 3-month subscription to TMC Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network is included with purchase of this device. For more information on subscription fees, coverage in individual cities, and traffic data networks in the United Kingdom and Europe, check the Garmin website.
Easy To Use Interface Garmin's interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip.
Beyond Navigation

With this GPS system on board you'll be prepared to steer clear of traffic with the integrated FM TMC traffic receiver. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nAvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time.

Garmin nuvi 660- Makes driving easier!October 10, 2008 Found this GPS easy to use on first trip! Didn't spend much time at all learning the menu and navigating through all the available information it provides. Easy to mount on windshield with included suction mount. The screen is big enough to see clearly even if mounted on passenger side of vehicle. Has a day or night screen setting that is very helpful. We found most helpful the voice announcement of "keep left or keep right" and countdown in miles and then feet to a turn. Easily recalculates if you deviate from the original route. This little GPS takes a lot of the stress out of driving on unfamiliar roads!
GARMIN NUVI 660October 9, 2008 The Garmin Nuvi 660 is an excellent GPS. The maps are very clear and you voice is easy to recognize what is being said. We use it all over the NY City area including Westchester,Rockland and parts of New Jersey without any problems. I would recommend it over any other company's GPS!
Does Everything Except Drive The CarOctober 8, 2008 This device has empowered me. I no longer have to fear getting lost is a strange neighborhood or finding my way back home. Mine came with 2008 maps but I registered on the Garmin site and downloaded the 2009 maps without a problem. I also updated the firmware using Garmin's "WebUpdater." I did have an issue with Garmin's POI loader software "seeing" the Nuvi (strange, since the WebUpdater found it with no problem and I could access the drive through MY Computer), but I just downloaded POIs onto an SD card and that solved that.
It's the perfect size, the volume is great, even the FM Transmitter works great for me and the bluetooth IS worth it. It connects so quick, has great range, and the speaker really is quite good. I tried it through the FM transmitter and that was surprisingly good. Very happy with this model.
I do have one concern: the plastic frame at the bottom of the screen is slightly bowed and not flush with the screen. It's very slight, but I'm unsure if this is a common defect. It works great, and I've already invested a couple of hours in updated it, so I don't know if it's worth it to get it replaced.
The box, when delivered from Amazon, was not in any shrink-wrap (which may be how they are delivered) and there is a blue sticker on the top with some letters and a bar code. I know Amazon only sells new, but wonder about the sticker. I did call Amazon and was assured they only sell new. Anyone else notice their Nuvi's frame not completely flush with the glass or who remembers their delivery not having any shrink-wrap, please comment.
If you're thinking about buying -- do it. It really is worth it.
GPS A Winner!October 6, 2008 Drove from Nebraska to Florida for the first time, came back through Atlanta, GA. The GPS was right on, except for new construction or hiways . . . always have an idea of where you want to go and major signs to ensure you are on the right road. If there has been new construction the GPS may get "confused" and have to "recalculate" a couple of times. But, just continue to follow instructions from the GPS and you will get back on track as soon as the program can find the road nearest you.
Especially good when in high density traffic with multiple lanes. The "voice" tells you early enough to "stay right", "turn in .2 mile", "Exit number 2A on the right" and such various other helps BEFORE you have gone by the turn.
Correct addresses of destinations are a must for the best efficiency. We had never been in Atlanta and drove right up to the house of our friends with no stress of wrong turns.
I recommend this GPS, though there are cheaper (less bells and whistles) and more expensive models. This is a great mid priced GPS.
Great navigator!October 5, 2008 After having a GPS stolen from my car, I love the portability of this one. I just slip it in my purse and go. The wide screen is great and I have not had any problems with it. I have not tried the blue tooth function yet. My only complaint would be it can sometimes be a little bit slow acquiring satellites. All-in-all I think it is great.
