Customer Reviews:
Great sound.August 20, 2008 System has great sound and great versatility. The set up is difficult, the instruction book is incomplete and lacking appropriate set up instructions. You have to do a lot of playing with it to get everything configured the way you want. It does get HOT, but have had no problems with the heat, it is seperated from other equipment though. Have had this unit about a year now with absolutely no problems.
HottMay 6, 2008 This unit does indeed sound good as long as you don't turn the volume past 32 otherwise it will clip & shutoff on you. You can thaw frozen foods on top of this thing. Do not put this receiver inside a closed stereo cabinet without intake & exhaust fans, normal cut-outs won't cut it.
The features it has are great though, USB is ahead of it's time, LFE, HDMI switching, upconverting and independent volume controls on each speaker.
If I were on the design team, I would have added two more HDMI ports, a phono input, on screen menu, a blue backlit RF remote, 2 silent cooling fans, rear USB port, spectrum analyzer on LCD, an easier to follow instruction guide and most of all fix the circuit breaker clipping issue.
It's biggest flaw, if you really want to crank it during those low volume dialogue moments as soon as the action increases ie. bombs, rapid gunfire or car crashes the system shuts itself down. For me at least I have to yank the HDMI cables then reseat them in order for the connected device to be re-recognized again. If I didn't have tennants underneath me, this would have got returned for something with more RMS stability.
Real world output power is roughly 45watts per ch. If you want real power look elsewhere. If you're working with space limitations an can use extra heat for thore winter months this is your solution.
Bought mine on E-Bay for half the price so if you find a bargain get it, othwise.....
Good but not greatJuly 20, 2007 I had this receiver for about 8 months. The good points are that it had HDMI in and out, though only passthrough, and it sounded okay. The bad points were that it ran a little hot, and the interface with the remote or the faceplate of the receiver were awkward and annoying. Also, the manual was edited and organized by an 8th grader, it's very hard to follow.
I think for the money you can do better with an Onkyo, but if you got a really great deal on this, it would do the job.
